Halocarbon Agents

There are Several different brands of Chemical Agents available in the Australian market. These include FM-200 and Novec.

The chemical sgents are clasified as a “Clean Agent. A clean agent is defined as  ”an electrically non-conducting, volatile, or gaseous fire extinguishant that does not leave a residue upon evaporation.” according to the US based National Fire Protection Association.

Both FM200 and Novec were developed to replace the Halon agent.

The Halon agent  was very effective at extinguising fire but contained a high ozone depleting potentail so is not used in Australia any more.

FM200 and Novec extinguishes fires by interupting the chemical chain reaction of fire by absorbing heat.

FM200 tanks are pressurized to 360 psi @ 70°F

Inergen cylinder charging pressure is 2175 psi at
70 °F (14997 kPA at 21 °C).
